Helping With Treatment
Some people stop taking their schizophrenia medicine once they start feeling better.
Remind your loved one that he or she must keep taking the medicine just as the doctor
ordered. You can also remind your loved one to go to doctor appointments and/or
follow other treatments.
Here are some ways you can help someone take the medicine as the doctor ordered:
- Use medicine calendars or pill boxes labeled with the days of the week. This way,
both you and your loved one can see if the medicine has been taken
- Suggest taking medicine at the same time every day, such as at mealtimes
- Remind your loved one always to take the medicine with food and to swallow the pill
whole
- If he or she wants to stop the medication, talk to the doctor first
