Side effects of GEODON

All medicines can cause side effects. GEODON may cause side effects in some people.

The most common side effects are:

  • Feeling very tired or sleepy
  • Upset stomach
  • Constipation
  • Feeling dizzy
  • Muscle movements you are unable to control, such as tremor or shuffling
  • Diarrhea
  • Rash
  • Restlessness
  • Increased cough/runny nose

Although these are the most common side effects of GEODON, others may happen. To learn more about side effects, talk to your doctor. Also be sure to tell your doctor if you have diarrhea, vomiting or any other illness that could cause you to lose fluids.

Geodon® (ziprasidone HCl) is a medicine that treats your symptoms of schizophrenia. It is an effective medicine that has both benefits and risks.

Elderly patients with dementia-related psychosis treated with antipsychotic drugs are at an increased risk of death compared to placebo. GEODON is not approved for the treatment of these patients.

One risk of GEODON is that it may change your heart rhythm. GEODON may cause only a small change. It is not known if this is harmful. Tell your doctor about any heart problems you have had. Be sure to call your doctor right away if you faint or pass out. Also call if you feel a change in your heartbeat.

Drugs like GEODON can raise blood sugar levels in some people. This can sometimes cause bad side effects. There have been few reports of high blood sugar or diabetes in patients who take GEODON. It is not known if GEODON is linked with these conditions. People who take drugs like GEODON should be watched for signs of high blood sugar.

You might or might not have side effects from taking GEODON. Most people do not have any change in body weight or cholesterol. They also have very few sexual side effects. GEODON can cause certain kinds of muscle movements. These include tremor, stiffness, shuffling, and feeling restless.

GEODON can make you feel drowsy or dizzy. You may have an upset stomach, or have hard stool or diarrhea. A runny nose, rash, or cough is common.
